Freedoms

by Hīrā Hayami

I never realized the privileges that I had
   Until they were gone
   How fortunate am I
That I can lay down in my pajamas,
Lounge out all bum-like in the lawn
   Worry-free stays my mind
Without the bloodshed of any wars going on

I am not going to be shamed
For bursting out loud, singing my song
   You think this is how
   We are supposed to live?
   Never even realizing
   The nothingness you have
   Is also your gift

   Laying down in my lawn
I hear birds chirping away, afar
The whizzing-by sounds of everyday cars
   Blue skies above
   Basking in the sun
We get to live out our freedoms
Which are so fleeting for some
