Monster in the Closet

by Hīrā Hayami

I'm so hellbent on being someone good
How could I listen to an image
Who merely paints me a fool!

    I could not -
    I dare not touch you,
    Twisted wolf in wool

    And so, without you,
    Who would I be?
Someone too eager to bend my own knee?

    But could I -
Would I be a better you?
    Monster in the closet
