Refuge
by Hīrā Hayami
Do you think there's a time and a place
We will go
With a lake or a spring
Somewhere up the road?
To do what we must
To never be alone
Under the coven of sanctuary
A place to call home
Will we travel far?
To see the stars
Under wispy clouds
And all that we are?
A galaxy made of dreams?
All the roads we will pave
Tread, failed lightly, the soles of our feet
Here we are
So far
So neat
It's been so long
It's hard to believe
Journey, here, is almost complete
Come back here
To the windy road with me
Our sanctuary made moment by moment
Some with hesitation
Some with hostility, rash
Some with caution
Some, known fleeting
How fleeting life can be
So we set out that way
For an adventure
That day
Though we were meek
Weak, tired, unsure
And not very brave
It was all for the memories we'd make along the way
Come to find
Through the passage of time
It was nothing like the story books told
I misplaced wisdom in the quiet calm
Of the skylines
The refuge we sought
To this day I find
Was here all along
Residing deep within the swells of you and I
