You Are Poetry

by Hīrā Hayami

   To my Threaded One...

   You are poetry

You are aware of that, right?
Poetry is capturing change in a single moment
Giving motion to an immovable object
   Bringing life into its essence
Without belittling its fortitude, in awe

You are the dance of a flag
The hardiness built into ancient ruins
The shake and shudder of the leaves on trees
A song heard but never written within the breeze

I never meant to point out
   Your paradoxical beauty
   So haphazardly
   And nonchalantly so
Even if I had not mentioned it
Time will be another thing your memory will stain

   Your heart will always remain
   Lest we forget
   A body may perish
   But a soul never dies
   And in this life
   Lives a hundred lifetimes

   You are poetry
In every sense of the word
